GP Triage Appointments System

We are now facing unprecedented demand for appointments within the practice and we have had to change the way we meet this demand.  As a result the only pre-bookable appointments are with members of our nursing or multi-disciplinary team and all GP appointments are being triaged.  Patients seeking medical advice should phone any day between the hours of 8.30am and 11.00am where your call will be answered by one of our patient advisors.  All information given to our staff is treated confidentially and it would be appreciated if you could give as much information as possible to our staff to allow them to direct your call appropriately.  If an appointment is required, the clinician who is triaging your call will give you a time to attend the surgery.  Please note that triage may close prior to 11.00am each day if we have already reached capacity and only MEDICAL EMERGENCIES can be dealt with after this time.  

Please Cancel Your Appointment if you no longer need it or cannot manage to come. Many appointments could be released each day if people cancelled. Patients will be removed from our list if they regularly fail to cancel unwanted appointments.

Home Visits

If possible please try to telephone reception before 10:00 if you require a home visit.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Training Practice

Our surgery has been involved in training new General Practitioners since 1980. Training practices are rigorously scrutinized by the University of Glasgow and have to reach the highest standards of care.

GP registrars are appointed only after a minimum of three years Postgraduate training in hospital. Each Registrar usually spends one year in the training practice. Please welcome them and treat them as you would any of the other doctors. Dr McHugh, Dr McNab, Dr Miller, Dr Bothwell, Dr Young and Dr Begg all did their training in general practice at Frew Terrace Surgery.

We are also involved in the training of junior doctors who spend four months in the practice.
As part of the training program some consultations are video recorded.  These recording are held on encrypted data/media sticks and the only people who have access to these are the trainee and trainer.  The trainer will review the videos with his/her trainee and give feedback.  This will help the trainee to improve their consultation skills if necessary.   

Patients are asked to sign a consent form, however, you do not have to agree to this.  If you do not wish your consultation to be recorded you just have to let the receptionist know.

We also undertake a lot of training of medical students and junior doctors.  We often ask patients to speak to students as this is a very important part of their training and they learn a great deal from this.  If this is something you would be willing to participate in, could you please contact Lorna Wilson at Frew Terrace Surgery and she will keep your details for the future.

Test Results

Our receptionists cannot give out results information at the front desk for confidentiality reasons.  Please therefore call the surgery between the hours of 2pm and 4pm when our receptionists will be available to assist you by telephone.
